When Theodore Roosevelt entered the presidency in 1904, he changed the United States foreign policy. His actions soon became known as the big stick policy, when Roosevelt quoted, "Speak softly and carry a big stick. He meant that the US should display its power with a "big stick". Theodore Roosevelt's big stick policy led the US to become a major economic power. His actions led to the US becoming a world power.
The BIG STICK DIPLOMACY
In 1907, Theodore Roosevelt went on a world tour. Inspired by the phrase “Speak softly and carry a big stick, you will go Far.”, he displayed the US military might, where he negotiated diplomacies and treaties with other countries. He realized that the world was changing, and he made the US prominent in the world.
Theodore Roosevelt led the “goodwill tour” to other countries. He led the diplomacies and contracts with foreign countries and he made the US known. He also protected the mistreatment of Latin and Central American countries in the name of the Monroe Doctrine. Theodore Roosevelt managed to safely negotiate with other countries without causing wars or too many disagreements.
As a result, Roosevelt’s actions helped make the US known in the world. He made the US respected by other countries, and he brought stability to Lain America. He made the US an economic power, and he brought the concept of imperialism to the US. He made many treaties and contracts that are still respected today.
Today, if it wasn't for Roosevelt, we might have been thought of as not much more than Brazil. Theodore Roosevelt helped make us the “greatest nation on earth”. Now other countries respect us and we have the best and most well trained military in the world. Theodore Roosevelt helped the country make this happen.
